Windsor Terrace in Clifton was begun in the 1790s as a speculation by William Watts, the inventor of the Redcliffe shot tower, who was declared bankrupt in 1794 as Bristol's building boom collapsed. The houses stand on a massive Pennant-stone retaining wall high above the Avon, part of an important view of Clifton. The terrace and its wall are Grade II-listed.
