About this work
Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel on College Green, beside Bristol Cathedral. Originally known as the Royal Hotel, it was built between 1863 and 1868 to designs by Bristol architect W. H. Hawtin. The grand Italianate building is constructed in limestone ashlar and features richly decorated façades, projecting bays, arched windows, Corinthian detailing and a distinctive domed corner tower. It was extensively restored in 1991 and retains its historic Palm Court with a glazed roof. The hotel has been Grade II listed since 1978 and remains one of the most prominent Victorian buildings.
