About this work
St John on the Wall, formally the Church of St John the Baptist, is a historic medieval church at the lower end of Broad Street in Bristol’s Old City. Built into the surviving medieval city wall, it is now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust and is designated a Grade I listed building. The church dates mainly from the 14th century, with later alterations in the 19th century. Its tower and spire rise directly above St John’s Gate, the last surviving gateway from Bristol’s medieval defences.
