About this work

33 Colston Avenue, formerly known as Northcliffe House, in Bristol city centre. It was designed by Ellis & Clarke and completed in 1929 as offices for the Bristol Evening World newspaper. It is a distinctive example of Art Deco architecture, faced in Bath stone and arranged around an off-centre stepped clock tower. Its strong vertical windows, geometric detailing and restrained façade reflect the modern commercial architecture of the late 1920s.
