About this work
St Nicholas of Tolentino Roman Catholic Church, located at Lawford’s Gate in Bristol, close to Old Market and Easton. It is one of Bristol’s oldest purpose-built Roman Catholic churches. The parish was founded in 1848 by Bishop William Bernard Ullathorne, largely to serve Irish Catholic families who had arrived in Bristol during the Great Famine. The church was designed by Charles Francis Hansom and built in stages between 1850 and 1873, using a Gothic Revival style with local stone, steep roofs and pointed-arched details.
