The Palace Hotel, also known as The Gin Palace, is a historic former pub in Bristol’s Old Market Conservation Area. Built in 1869, it is a Grade II listed building noted for its highly decorative Victorian exterior, including elaborate carved stonework and two distinctive Assyrian-style figures. The building was constructed for wine and spirits merchant John Sharp at a time when a major railway station was expected to be built nearby. It was originally intended to be called the Railway Hotel, but Bristol Temple Meads became the city’s principal station.
