Eastville's automatic telephone exchange on Fishponds Road opened on 7 March 1979, when Bristol North East MP Arthur Palmer performed the opening. It was built to serve Eastville and the surrounding area, taking over lines from four neighbouring exchanges, including around 2,000 from nearby Easton. It still serves the area today on the Openreach network, now including full-fibre broadband.
