Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and launched in Bristol in 1843, SS Great Britain was the first large ocean-going ship to combine an iron hull with screw propulsion. She was the world's largest passenger ship from 1845 to 1853. Brought back from the Falkland Islands in 1970, she is now a museum ship in the Great Western Dockyard, the dry dock where she was built.
