The ruined St Peter's Church in Castle Park was founded in the early 12th century, possibly on the site of Bristol's first church, and was largely rebuilt in the 15th century. Gutted by bombing in the Blitz of 24-25 November 1940, the Grade II*-listed shell is kept as a memorial to the city's civilian war dead.
