Bristol Temple Meads opened on 31 August 1840 as the western terminus of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Great Western Railway. Brunel's original terminus and train shed survive, beside the 1870s extension now credited to Henry Lloyd with engineer Francis Fox, and the 1930s Art Deco additions. Most of the site is Grade I-listed, and it remains the busiest station in South West England.
