Founded in 1140 as the abbey of St Augustine, the church became Bristol Cathedral in 1542 after the Dissolution. Its 14th-century east end is a rare hall church, with aisles as tall as the choir, while the nave was added in the 19th century by G. E. Street and the western towers by J. L. Pearson were completed in 1888. It is Grade I-listed.
