Overlooking College Green, the Royal Hotel was built in 1863-68 for the College Green Hotel Company to designs by W. H. Hawtin, and is described as Bristol's oldest hotel. The Grade II-listed building, once the Swallow Royal, now trades as the Bristol Marriott Royal and retains its restored Victorian Palm Court.
