Opposite Temple Meads station, the Grosvenor Hotel opened in 1875 as a five-storey, 70-room hotel for rail travellers, designed by S.C. Fripp, a former assistant of Brunel. It later became a homeless hostel before standing derelict for years. After a major fire in October 2022, demolition began in February 2024 as part of plans to regenerate the area around Bristol's main station.
